Positives of dating a marine
My step-brother/brother Michael found it appropriate to mention that never in a million years could he picture my wedding being in the South, making reference to our upbringing in suburban Southern California and on how this was a true act of Southern hospitality that left men from our background awe-stricken.I find it important as a combat veteran to associate everything with war so that I may appreciate a greater importance and assign meaning to this thing that I find so meaningless and time consuming. There are some extremely good guys in the Corps, but there are also extremely good guys who are not in the military at all, just like there are douchebags everywhere. Life is not like An Officer and a Gentleman and you are not Debra Winger! Your household goods are scheduled to arrive while he is gone. I know there are women out there who want to date a guy in the military. The tearful partings, extended separations, passionate returns. He is not going to swoop in, in uniform no less, and save you from your dreary life! You, your toddler, and husband move across the ocean. You are going to mainland Japan for training for a month! You’ll get to supervise that (and good luck, they might not speak any English) while keeping track of your toddler and then you’ll get to unpack it all. Military men seem pretty great at getting the ladies, and not just during Fleet Week in NYC, where hundreds of hot young Navy guys are greeted on the shores of N. Sorry, boys, it’s not just those things, though the uniforms and muscles do help.
I specifically remember standing in some line behind a Marine who said, “After all of that (war/battle/survival) I just want my truck, but she won’t give it back. Looking at this raw situation honestly, it either sets a young woman up for a very lonely year of sacrifice, or the best year she has ever had with an endless surplus of tax-free deployment money just a pin number away. They commit themselves to a purpose, and to one another, all for a greater cause. Just knowing that they are capable of devoting themselves to something else outside of themselves shows a level of unselfishness and integrity that frankly, a lot of people in general don’t seem to have. They haven’t all traveled the world on deployments. But they know what’s going on in the world, because it’s their job to know, and for many, it’s the reason they joined the military in the first place. Articles about, well, dating, often get more views and social media shares than stories about ISIS and conflict in the Ukraine. But there’s a reason the military men you meet, more so than other hot men in uniform (think firefighters, police officers, the UPS guy), are either in relationships, or don’t seem to have a lot of trouble meeting women. At the end of the day, most of these things are qualities any guy could bring to the table, if he really tried.
Military men just already seem to have it: Military guys have a higher calling; they’re committed to serving their country, and their loyalty to the nation will take them to war zones, disaster areas, and anywhere they’re called to. You’ve seen “Band of Brothers,” you’ve heard of “no man left behind.” It’s all true.
Are these people wanting to know how to initially get the Marine or do they already have the Marine and don’t know what to do with him now. It comes easy for some women while it breaks others.
