Global address list not updating in cached mode Live sec typing chat
I might have a problem with my Offline Address Book in Outlook.
For me, new colleagues are not showing up and the contact pictures aren’t displaying either.
This is my issue: We are using Exchange 2010 and Outlook 2007.
Last week we added a new conference room in Exchange.
Please visit the document on How to turn on or off Cached Exchange Mode for (Outlook 2010, and Outlook 20).
Outlook 2011 does not use Exchange Cached mode and directly connects to the Global Address Book (GAL) via LDAP connection.
Is there any way I can force a manual update of the Offline Address Book (OAB) in Outlook or reset it completely otherwise?
When I look up the conference room in the Global Address List, it doesn't show up. So as I understood from our Sys Admin, the oab files are generated on one server, and rely on the file replication service on the global catalog servers (we have 2 of them) to copy the oab files to each of the servers.
However, if I delete my files (Offline Address Book) then I can see the new conference room in the Global Address List. The service was not started on one of the servers and therefore some users were getting old oab's while other users were getting fresh copies. if you're having this issue, make sure the file replication service is started. Chances are good that OAB generation is failing for some reason.
Rather than waiting 24 hours for Outlook to update the Offline Address Book on its own, you can force an update via the Send/Receive menu button.
You can disable the option “Download changes since last Send/Receive” to make sure you get a complete fresh copy of the OAB but this could take longer to download. If the update mechanism appears to be broken for you, it could be because of a corruption in your OAB or in your mail profile.
